December is the season of twinkle lights, painted windows, decorated trees and of course the jolly holiday icon Santa Claus, known to some as St. Nicholas. But who was St. Nicholas? The Smithsonian Channel explores the mystery behind the legend in an attempt to uncover the true story of the man who brings so much joy to people all across the world. In 1965, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz came together to form The Monkees. They were strangers who had been hired to fulfill the vision of the band’s creators Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider who essentially created the world's first "Boy Band."
