Smithsonian Channel News

If you’re saying to yourself, “I didn’t know there was a Smithsonian Channel,” don’t feel bad, you’re not alone. While pretty much everyone has heard of the Smithsonian Institution – and millions of visitors have been to its museums - Smithsonian Channel has only been on the air since September 2007 and not a lot of people know about us…yet. Here’s a video to introduce you to the channel.

At Smithsonian Channel, our goal is to bring the world of the Smithsonian Institution right to your home. Our programs cover a range of topics from nature and history, to music and pop culture. We’re here to tell America’s stories and what better place to tell stories than on TV …and on a blog.

Here at the Smithsonian Channel blog we hope to share stories about a whole range of topics - from what’s on our air to what’s happening at the Smithsonian Institution to what people are talking about across the country. If you liked a particular show or blog post, we want to hear about it. If you think we could have done something differently, we want to hear that too. And if you have ideas about what American stories Smithsonian Channel should be telling, we’d really love to hear from you - I can’t promise that we’ll be sending a production crew out to your house though.

Now a quick word about me. My name is Susanne Mei and I’m the Vice President of Digital Media. I’m a former journalist and working mom with two young kids and I have been a part of Smithsonian Channel for more than 2 years. I read all kinds of blogs – news blogs, mom blogs, French blogs and (yes, I admit it) celebrity blogs.

Other members of our team will be blogging too and each time a new person writes a post, we will precede that post with an introduction so you’ll know a little about who you’re hearing from.

Many of our initial posts will come from Andrea Michnik. Andrea is joining us as a Smithsonian Channel blogger this fall and in addition to writing her own posts she will be helping our entire team get started with the blog as well as reading and engaging with other blogs covering similar topics. If you’d like to let the Smithsonian Channel team know about your blog reach out to Andrea and she’ll be sure to check you out!
