Last week I caught a special on CNN about SPAM. Yep, you got it, SPAM, the meat in a can- not the annoying content that pops up on your computer screen. What is the world coming to if families are living on SPAM for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

Along with other changes in behavior - like driving less and taking fewer vacations - it turns out that when the nation’s economy is falling, the sales of SPAM rise. But in a country where 3.6 cans of SPAM are consumed every second it’s more than just a low-cost food alternative, it’s actually the star of a festival held every year in Austin, TX.

Check out Smithsonian Channel’s sneak peak at the SPAMARAMA festival.

I see that the Spam can featured on your video contains “25% less sodium than Spam Classic.” Just exactly how much sodium does each version of Spam contain, and how does that compare to the maximum (but still healthy) daily dose of sodium adults should consume? I’ve heard that Spam is too salty for us hypertensive types.
